I care about accessibility, inclusion, and systemic equity and justice for all people. Diversity should be welcomed, not feared. I value the environment and natural processes that support life on Earth. Timely health care, a solid education, and freedom from poverty, hunger, oppression and displacement are human rights.
I oppose authoritarianism, imperialism, racism, classism, patriarchy, tech oligarchy, anti-intellectualism, sectarianism, and bigotry in its many forms. Christofascists, sycophant billionaires, and political grifters are the problems, not immigrants.
I stand with Canada, Greenland and Latin America in the face of the current U.S. regime's illegal and immoral use of economic coercion, annexation threats and military force in the pursuit of an "American empire" hemisphere. Prime Minister Mark Carney's words resonate: “You cannot live within the lie of mutual benefit through integration, when integration becomes the source of your subordination.”
The genocide taking place in Palestine is horrific and unlawful; I favor a two-state solution as the only viable path to lasting peace in the Middle East.
Ukraine is a sovereign nation and I commend the bravery of its people. Russia's expansionist actions are illegal. Its leaders have rightfully been cited for war crimes by the International Criminal Court.
I support the UN's Sustainable Development Goals and its Global Biodiversity Framework. I trust the science of climate change and support the IPCC's stance on the shift to net zero CO2 emissions and a warming limit of 1.5°C. In the meantime, the international community (particularly the U.S. and China, the biggest polluters) must cooperate to lessen impacts on vulnerable locales.
Regarding education, accessible and affordable schooling should be open to all who seek it. Teachers and faculty should be cherished and academic freedoms affirmed. The arts are essential for a thriving society and should be nurtured. I have confidence in the adaptive process of inquiry that is science. The Far Right's anti-science campaign is dead wrong, harming individuals and society alike.
Most urgently, I condemn extremist ideologies that undermine hard-won democratic institutions. A pluralistic society, the rule of law, the separation of church and state, judicial independence and impartiality, free and fair elections and a well-informed electorate, a free and open press — these cooperate to deny power to authoritarians and ultra-nationalists.
